The optimal storage of
magnum bottles
This allows you to store your magnum bottles safely and professionally.
Due to their larger volume, large bottles offer an ideal ageing process for both white and red wines. Particularly high-quality wines such as Bordeaux wines, Burgundy, champagne or Austrian wines benefit from storage in magnum bottles, as they mature more slowly and thus develop a deeper complexity and finesse. When stored correctly, both white and red wines from magnum bottles develop particularly pronounced aromas and a harmonious balance.
Why is the correct storage of magnum bottles so important?
Compared to standard bottles, large bottles offer slower, more even maturation due to their larger volume, which gives the aromas more time to develop. Nevertheless, magnum bottles are just as sensitive to temperature fluctuations, light and dryness as 0.75 l bottles. Incorrect storage can have a negative impact on the ageing process and cause undesirable aromas or oxidation. With the optimum storage solutions from Wine Wallet , your magnum white and red wines will mature under ideal conditions and develop their full potential.

Tips for the perfect storage of large bottles
- Constant temperature: The ideal storage temperature for large bottles, such as magnums or larger, is between 12-16°C. A constant temperature is important to optimize the maturation process. Temperatures that are too high or fluctuate too much can have a negative effect on the maturation process, while temperatures that are too low slow down the maturation process.
- Humidity: Maintain a constant humidity of 60-70%. This protects the cork and prevents it from drying out, which can lead to possible oxidation. Greater stability of the cork is particularly important for magnum bottles, as the larger bottle content allows for long-lasting maturation.
- Storage position: Store the magnum bottles horizontally to keep the cork moist and maintain its tightness. The larger volume of a magnum bottle requires an even distribution of pressure on the cork to prevent it from drying out.
- Light protection: Protect your magnum bottles from direct sunlight and strong light. UV light can negatively affect the aromas and taste of both white and red wine. Dark storage is therefore essential to preserve the quality of the wines. Ideally, your magnum bottle should be stored in an OHK (original wooden crate).
- Clean environment: Make sure that the environment in which you store your magnum wines is clean and odorless. Corks can absorb unpleasant odors that could be transferred to the wine. You should also make sure that labels are not damaged, as magnum bottles are often elegantly packaged and the labels are part of the overall picture.
